What is a Child Care Health Consultant?

A child care health consultant (CCHC) is a trained professional who knows about child development, health and safety in child care settings. CCHCs work with you to promote healthy and safe environments for young children. CCHCs have expert information, resources, and referrals to offer. Through onsite and telephone consultation, CCHCs work with child care centers and family child care homes to support and promote the healthy growth and development of young children.

As a CCHC specializing in social-emotional development,  Diane can:​​

  • Create and review discipline policies and procedures
  • Provide training on social-emotional development, physical health and safety
  • Identify community resources for early childhood mental and physical health
  • Assist with inclusion of children with mental health special needs such as ADHD, autism (ASD) and sensory processing disorder (SPD)
  • Review schedules for recommended amounts of physical activity and assess playgrounds and indoor spaces for safety and appropriateness
